Yup, I'm the main character with amnesia, a rare setting these days.
— Neptune

Neptune is the main character of Hyperdimension Neptunia and Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1. She has amnesia, but stays cheerful and energetic. This often aggravates both her friends and enemies. Sometimes her friends wonder if she is not faking her condition.

Neptune is actually the Console Patron Unit (CPU) who protects Planeptune, Purple Heart. Unlike her human form, Purple Heart looks more adult and has a much more mature personality to match. When the going gets tough, she is the one to rely on.

Profile[]

Neptune[]

Neptune is the human form of the CPU Purple Heart. She is often considered to be energetic and dorky. Her favorite food is custard pudding and she loves playing video games. While she enjoys playing all games, she especially loves retro video games.

Appearance[]

Her apparel consists of a choker around her neck with a light blue D-pad symbol on it and short-sleeved mini hoodie with blue and purple lining around the sleeves and the hood. The hoodie is closed by a button emblem with a large N in the middle and has two strings that look like controller plugs. Underneath she wears a dark purple dress lined with light purple which zips up from the front and has pockets on both sides along with white lining along the bottom. Her socks are light blue and white striped thigh high socks with frills at the tops and her shoes are purple and blue with an N on them.

Personality[]

She is a happy, excitable girl with a very strong sense of justice. Her ditzy personality causes her to be very careless at times which can either help her or land her into serious trouble. She makes friends rather easily due to her friendly nature and often gives them cute nicknames. People admire her optimistic outlook and confidence. She never gives up or backs down when the going gets tough and she makes sure to see her objective through to the very end. She can be pretty troublesome sometimes.

Purple Heart[]

Purple Heart is the goddess form of Neptune. She is considered to be cool, collected, just, and overall much more mature in comparison to her human form. While the personality and appearance change is major between the two forms, she still retains some aspects of her human form albeit to a lesser extent.

Appearance[]

Purple Core[]

In her Purple Core, Purple Heart has long purple hair in twin tails that almost reaches her feet and bright blue eyes with white pupils in the shape of power signs. She wears black hair clips with glowing blue D-Pad shapes on them, and a black body suit that exposes her chest somewhat. Both of the bodysuit's shoulder areas contain a white outlined D-pad symbol and the arm areas contain purple along the sides while the front of the bodysuit also contains purple areas near the bottom. On the breast areas you can see a single purple strip. Purple Heart's leg-wear seems as though it is the same as her human forms only it appears as black boots with purple tips instead.

Lost Purple Core[]

Purple Heart's appearance in her Lost Purple Core is reminiscent of the Purple Core but with much more stylization and design. Her hair and hair clips remain the same while her bodysuit, while still black, has purple and blue lining all around the torso and arms. The middle of the torso has purple mesh, allowing a vague vertical view of her stomach. She also wears thigh high boots with octagon patterns on the side at the very top; one filled it with purple and another just a white outline.

Personality[]

Purple Heart is a serious and mature person. She's often calm and rarely changes facial expressions. She is a very observant and intelligent female, thinking in a rational matter most of the time. She is the complete opposite of her human form in many aspects but her strong sense of justice and confidence remains unchanged. It can be said that Purple Heart is a bit arrogant, having a strong confidence in her abilities and believing that no one can defeat her. Despite her change in personality, there are times that where Purple Heart acts slightly like her human form.

Final CPU Form[]

A form seen in the skill HDD:Neptune; oddly, no mention is made of this form elsewhere. Neptune transforms into a black spacefighter with glowing purple edges. The spacefighter sports canards and two pairs of wings, one with a forward sweep and one with a backwards sweep. It fires a pair of cluster missiles from an internal bay.

Story[]

Hyperdimension Neptunia[]

Prologue

Neptune faces off against the other three CPUs in a battle to determine who will be Gamindustri's true goddess. During the fight she is singled out and attacked by Noire, Blanc, and Vert who deem her to be the most troublesome to fight out of the four of them. This confrontation leads to Neptune being thrown off of Celestia.

While unconscious, Neptune hears Histoire's plea for help but before she truly grasps and understanding of the situation she wakes up and finds herself in the room of a nurse-in-training named Compa. It is revealed that she was the one who brought Neptune to her apartment after watching her fall out from the sky and into the ground.

After introductions between the two, it becomes apparent that Neptune doesn't remember anything other than her name and most like became inflicted with amnesia due to her fall. Neptune remembers Histoire's plea for help and also concludes that there is a "boss" generating the monsters in Gamindustri. She takes it upon herself to go out and beat them, but not without the accompaniment of Compa.

Tutorial!

Neptune receives a personal tutorial from Histoire as she and Compa explore their first dungeon together. Towards the end, her ability to transform is revealed along with the Planeptune Key Fragment salvaged from the monster. After hearing Histoire's request about collecting the remaining fragments and freeing her from the seal, Neptune heads out with Compa to find them.

The First Dungeon!

Neptune wants to go off to the next landmass since they've already obtained the Planeptune Key Fragment, but Compa says they can't leave while people still need help. Instead of leaving right away, the two of them head to another dungeon to deal with a Sand Worm monster. In the dungeon, Neptune bumps into a girl named IF who states that she is there to deal with the monster in the dungeon as requested by the Basilicom. Neptune convinces IF to join up with them so that they can conquer the dungeon together.

After defeating the monster, Neptune and Compa explain the situation regarding the Key Fragments and Histoire to IF. While skeptical at first, IF decides to join them on their journey due to feeling that the world would be doomed if left up to the two of them. In order for them to travel to other landmasses, they must receive a Terraportation permit. The girls head to the Basilicom to sign up for Terraportation. While signing up, Neptune asks the man assisting her more about Basilicoms and receives a brief history lesson about the creation and purpose of Basilicoms.

Terraportation

The girls arrive to the Sky Harbor and Neptune is amazed at how the ground is split, questioning if it happened during some great war from long, long ago. As she goes off on a tangent, IF questions what she's babbling about. Compa tells her to be patient since Neptune really doesn't remember anything.

Compa explains to Neptune that they're in the Sky Harbor area, where two landmasses come into contact with one another. IF further explains, saying that they use a bridge to cross over to the other landmass, and that they needed the Basilicom's permit to get the bridge lowered so they can use it at any time.

Find The Key Fragments!

Lastation

During her time in Lastation, Neptune and her party try obtaining information regarding monsters from the Basilicom but are rudely turned away. Having no other choice in the matter, they begin taking on odd jobs in the hopes of perhaps finding more information regarding the Key Fragment. They eventually learn about the conglomerate, Avenir, who is putting smaller companies out of business. Neptune concludes that because of how their existence negatively affects the other people on the landmass, they are by default the bad guys and that they must do something about them.

One of their main clients, Chian, is also one of the many people affected by Avenir. They decide to help her prepare for the Technology Expo in Lastation so that they can have a chance to save Chian's company and also speak with the Goddess. As they complete quests around Lastation, Neptune is relentlessly pursued by Black Heart and fights against her many times. At some point, Neptune finds Black Heart in her human form, Noire, and ends up taking her back to their inn with her due to Noire faking amnesia. The two girls form somewhat of a bond and without warning, Noire leaves the next day with only a note left behind saying she has recovered her memory. This saddens Neptune as she considered Noire to be her "amnesiac bestest buddy".

Release of Histoire!

Neptune completes the set of Key Fragments, but still receive no word from Histoire. To top it off, the party grows aware of one major issue. They have no idea what they are supposed to do upon collecting all the Fragments, and also have no idea where she even is. Histoire finally contacts Neptune and tells her that that Key Fragments will respond as they come closer to where she is being held.

The girls make their way to an ancient ruin dedicated to an unknown goddess who's not Purple Heart, Black Heart, Green Heart, or White Heart. It is there they find Histoire and put the Key Fragments together, thus freeing her from the seal. Histoire explains that Overlord Momus was a fabrication of Arfoire and that the Arfoire's that they had defeated were all mirrors of her true self.

Before explaining anymore, the trio takes Histoire to a more comfortable place. She explains more about what she is and her purpose regarding the goddesses and Celestia. She then states that Arfoire is the former goddess and that she wishes to destroy the world. With the goddesses having vacated Celestia, Arfoire has taken the opportunity to control it. In order to increase their chances of being able to defeat Arfoire, Histoire suggests they enlist the aid of the other goddesses. She also reveals that Neptune is the CPU of Planeptune.

With Celestia being a land where only the goddesses may reside, Histoire suggests a unique plan that will allow Compa and IF to go too. She informs them of a locked path to Celestia used by four heroes from the human realm who traversed it to defeat a goddess who had tried to take over the world. They used their weapons to act as keys for unlocking the path. In order to open it, the girls are sent on another fetch quest to obtain the four weapons.

The Path to Celestia

With Histoire in tow, Neptune and the others pay a visit to each of the CPUs in order to gain their support for the battle against Arfoire. However, each of the goddesses refuse her due to the fact that she doesn't remember her past as a goddess and thus do not see her as an equal. To her despair, Histoire imparts another nugget of truth. Neptune says she wishes to regain her memories so that the other CPUs will finally listen to her. Histoire repairs Neptune's lost records within the tome which sends Neptune into a state of unconsciousness. It is then she recalls how she and the other CPUs were created and why the Console War was started to begin with.

Neptune regains her memory and, despite Compa and IF's concerns, she seems to handle it well. Meanwhile, another incident strikes the party. Neptune goes missing, leaving nothing more than a letter in her absence. There is an area in Planeptune Neptune use to go to Celestia and back. The location is, of course, top-secret. However, thanks to a Guild Member, IF and Compa manage to find out where she is headed. Histoire concludes that Neptune is going off to fight Arfoire on her own.

When they find her, IF and Compa are forced to take her back by force, fighting her which ultimately leads to Neptune falling unconscious again. While unconscious, Neptune remembers her journey with them and begins to feel as if she's no different than Arfoire. However, Histoire gives her some encouraging words. Neptune wakes up and finds herself back in Compa's room. She apologizes to the two of them and promises that she's back to normal.

The party revisits each of the CPUs to ask for their help yet again. In order to get them on her side, each of them have a one on one battle with Neptune. Upon defeat, the CPUs uphold their word and join Neptune in the final battle against Arfoire.

The Final Battle?!

With all the CPUs now recruited, the party heads to the land where the Console War began, Celestia. There Neptune and her companions fight Arfoire a number of three times, twice as her normal self and a third time as a dragon. After defeating the Dragon Arfoire, the party returns to Planeptune to discuss what they will do about the monsters. Histoire informs them that they can rewrite the tome's records to completely get rid of the monsters in Gamindustri using the goddesses' combined power. Neptune is hesitant at first, wanting to use her power to get rid of the monsters the right way. However, she eventually gives in and accepts the offer to get rid of the monsters in Planeptune.

The CPUs assemble outside with Histoire. Histoire tells them to place their hands on her and pray, linking their minds. Using their combined powers they manage to remove all the monsters in Gamindustri. With the process now complete, Histoire says she'll be returning to Celestia and asks them what they intend to do. Neptune and the other CPUs tell Histoire that they wish to quit being CPUs and to give the full powers of a goddess to the one who will succeed them. The goddesses all put their power into Histoire, becoming fully human.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1[]

Chapter 1

Purple Heart faces off against the other three CPUs in a battle to determine who will be Gamindustri's true goddess.

In order to help jog her memory the two girls head to where Neptune landed.

After arriving to Virtua Forest, Compa and Neptune make their way to where Neptune had fell. However, Neptune is unable to remember anything even after being brought there. Before the two are able to investigate for more clues, the ground crumbles and they fall into a cave beneath the forest.

Neptune finds something and wonders what it is, but before they are able to ponder on the matter further a monster appears and grabs Compa. Despite Neptune's efforts to help, her attacks have no effect.

At this moment, Histoire mentally speaks to Neptune again. She tells her to use her Hard Drive Divinity but sicne Neptune doesn't remember anything, Histoire force runs HDD from her which allows her to change into Purple Heart. Now with new found power, Neptune is certain she can save compa and proceeds to engage the enemy.

After saving Compa from the monster, Purple Heart reverts back into Neptune. Due to the monster still being alive, the two run off and head back to Compa's apartment.

When they arrive to safety, Neptune asks Histoire about the object they had found prior. It is then she learns what she found was a Key Fragment and that the other three are needed to release Histoire from her seal. In return for freeing Histoire, she can help get Neptune her memory back. This being incentive for Neptune to travel out, she accepts Histoire's proposal right before the connection is severed.

After speaking to Histoire, Neptune and Compa go out shopping. They hear people talking about the cave beneath the forest they had discovered and how it's infested with monsters. Since the Guild is looking for people to help out with extermination, Neptune and Compa decide to head for the Guild instead of shopping as they had originally planned.

After signing up for the quest at the Guild, they head to the previously discovered cave. The further they travel in the darker it seems to get and eventually Neptune collides into IF. Once the three introduce themselves, the monster from before arrives which prompts Neptune to transform into Purple Heart before the engage the monster.

With IF's assistance, Purple Heart and Compa are able to defeat the monster for good. Purple Heart reverts back to Neptune after battle and asks IF to join their party while also dubbing her the nickname 'Iffy.' IF accepts Neptune's proposal and the newly formed group of three resume looking around the cave.

When IF inquires about their last trip there, Neptune and Compa explain the entire situation regarding Neptune, her amnesia, and the Key Fragments. Eventually Neptune finds a disc on the wall. The disc begins to shine and a monster emerges from it.

Once they neutralize the monster threat, they finally learn where exactly the monsters come from. In the middle of this discovery, Arfoire shows up and addresses Neptune even though Neptune has no idea who she is. Arfoire attacks Neptune and the others out of rage and easily overwhelms them.

Arfoire takes the Key Fragment away from Neptune and then proceeds to try and take her powers. However, Compa gets in the way and Arfoire ends up copying Compa instead of Neptune. This causes her to weaken enough for the group to be able to take her down. Neptune transforms into Purple Heart and gets ready to fight Arfoire again.

After defeating Arfoire, Purple Heart asks if Arfoire knows her. When Arfoire responds by saying she knows Purple Heart like the palm of her hand, Purple Heart asks Arfoire to tell her more about herself and who she is. Before they can get any information out of her, Arfoire leaves.

When they return to Compa's apartment to rest, Neptune asks IF if she wants to accompany them on their quest to collect Key Fragments. Having nothing else better to do, IF accepts her offer.

A while after,  Neptune is looking for Planeptower but has no idea where it is. She encounters Broccoli who she bestows the name 'Puchiko' to. After asking her where to find it and getting the information she needs, she thanks Broccoli and immediately heads off.

Neptune and the others head to Basilicom to fill out the proper papers needed to use the Sky Harbor so that they may travel to Lastation. In the middle of their signup process, Neptune asks if the goddess is around only for the Planeptune Basilicom staff worker to say she's probably in Celestia still. She then receives a brief history lesson on the Console War before they leave to head to Lastation.
