I removed your edit because the fact that Neptune represents a fictitious system is (or should be) common knowledge at this point. The creators themselves have gone out of there way to classify Neptune's system (whose hardware specifications are on her page) as "Neptune Fictitious Hardware."
These specifications were released with the Japanese version of the game and as well as the Neptune Fictitious Hardware physical model that was released around the time of Hyperimension Neptunia Victory in Japan.
The same case is with Nepgear who doesn't represent Game Gear but has a fictitious handheld called the N-Gear which was certainly inspired by the Game Gear but is not the same thing. And the specifications for that were released in the mk2 visual art book in Japan.
It would be impossible for them to represent Sega Neptune and Game Gear respectively as they are obsolete gaming systems and would clash with the lore of Hyper Dimension which follows our real world gaming generation. In other words, they'd have to be dead. The Neptune Fictitious Hard and the N-Gear are just fake consoles meant to put them on par with the other goddesses who represent real systems in a logical way.
What exactly does that have to do with my edit? My edit was about there being no source that I know of claiming that Neptune's name and the name "Planeptune" have anything to do with the real Sega Neptune.
Did you even read my actual edit in addition to what I said in the reason for editing?
That's beside the point, neither were named after the real console. Not Neptune, not the fictional console and not Planeptune. NOTHING connected to the Neptunia franchise has any actual connection to the real Sega Neptune!
It's quite obvious that the developers were unaware that Neptune was a planet name that had actually been used by Sega at some point. They most likely realized their mistake as they were far more careful with Plutia and Uzume.
Except it does. Just like Nepgear and N-Gear are an obvious pass at Sega Game GEAR.
By your logic, nothing in the series PERIOD is connected to ANYTHING in the real life gaming industry for the simple fact that it is never explicitly stated but rather strongly implied.
It's never stated that Lastation is a play to PlayStation and that Noire represents PlayStation systems. But it's obvious. It's not explicitly stated that Lowee is a reference to Nintendo Wii and Blanc represents Nintendo consoles, but it's strongly implied. Same for Leanbox, Vert, and Xbox and basically everything in the Neptunia franchise that's not a maker.
They can't explicitly tell us these things because if they outright stated it, they wouldn't be able to own the characters. None of the makers belong to the company for that very reason. Their explicitly stated personified companies own them, not Idea Factory/Compile Heart.
That's why these things are strongly implied and not directly stated. As I stated before, by saying Neptune has zero connection to Sega Neptune, you're saying none of the goddesses in this series have any connection to their personified systems.
If you're going to completely twist my words around like that then I'm done trying to explain this to you. I was respectful as possible in this discussion, but you've shown an insanely large level of disrespect to me by twisting my words like that. In fact if I didn't know any better, I'd say it looks like you care more about winning an argument than the truth.
Twisting your words? I've been stating facts the entire time. I'm not being rude.
Where is your source stating that Neptune wasn't named after Sega Neptune?
Where is your source stating that Planeptune wasn't named after Sega Neptune?
Did you even know that the system isn't even called the Sega Neptune? Neptune is merely a codename. The real name is the Sega 32X.
Sega was known for using planets for their console codenames.
They were all codenames and Neptune, Plutia, and Uzume are named accordingly.
You want me to sit here and believe "they didn't know." They obviously knew. You think they make these games without doing proper research?
Neptune is a bit more direct in English, and the joke of her name not even being spelled properly in Japanese doesn't translate well. In a sense, her name being spelled wrong is their way of doing something akin to what was done for Uzume and Plutia.
You have presented no evidence or logical reason to support your claims.

Sigh* Bruh, are you seriousy going to argue against someone that has actual facts from the Japanese version of the games? Neptune and Nepgear ARE based on fictional console and handheld that are inspired by the Sega Neptune and Game Gear. As PH said, they can't be based on the Sega Neptune and Game Gear cause it would contradict the lore. The Hyperdimension is a reference to the present day game industry, where the current consoles resides (PS3, Wii, and 360, which now moved on to PS4, Wii U, and XB1). The Game Gear has been dead since the mid 90s and the Sega Neptune was cancelled for reasons during the mid-late 90s. To keep up with the times, IF/CH decided to create a fictional console and handheld for Neptune and Nepgear to be able to keep up with the times and represent Sega.
Look at their names man. How can you not see that Neptune, Nepgear, and Planeptune doesn't have inspiration from the Sega Neptune and Game Gear? The one who's trying to win this argument is you really, and you really didn't bring any evidence to this debate to back up your statement.
Unless you can prove outright that Neptune was named after the real Sega Neptune then you're effectively being unecyclopedic with your conjecture being presented as fact. This can easily be avoided by changing the absolute into an uncertainty.
It's not baseless, but there's no point in trying to explain something to someone who isn't willing to listen. Your conjecture is still conjecture, baseless or not, and as a wiki administrator, you have an obligation to keep conjecture to a bare minimum, or best case scenario to eliminate it outright.
.... Seriously...? Apparently using evidence from the games themselves is now considered not "legitimate." If they're just "semematics" as you said, why are they even in the games to begin with? Surely it's not because they wanted to show us what both Neptune and Nepgar are based on. Oh? It's not? Welp, you're the boss, boss man, since you CLEARLY proved that we're both wrong with our statements.
There has been plenty of research poured into making these connections about the lore of Neptunia. I never put down anything unless I am absolutely certain of its validity. I've said before why things aren't explicitly stated. It's up to us, the fans, to understand the references and connections.
Saying I'm wrong, is saying pretty much the vast majority of the fanbase is wrong. You're literally the first person I've ever met to say something like this.
Look. If you're not even going to at least try to support your claims, you may as well stop talking. All you've been saying since you got here is that "it's this way because I say so and you have no proof"
It seems to me that you don't completely understand how Neptunia works and may or may not fully comprehend the franchise and how things are done.
You're disturbing the peace here and you've done nothing to back yourself up since you got here. I'm not an unreasonable person, but I'm too busy to waste time talking to someone stubborn who can't even support what they say with any information at all.
You're not going to get anywhere, so stop trying. I've said my piece and so has Leon.
If you continue this despite me trying to end it, it will be crossing over into harassment. Don't let it get there.
